                        Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions's enterprise project called Thrive Café, gives job seekers the opportunity to engage in hands-on training and gain experience in a commercial kitchen training space. Participants of the Thrive Café initiative, including Michael pictured, gain experience in the operations of a small café and kitchen, preparing both hot and cold beverages and meals for Mai-Wel staff and participants. In late 2019 Ian (pictured) was happy to score a job working at McDonald’s Heatherbrae. Initially he was hired casually in a maintenance position, however as a result of his consistent initiative, Ian was soon offered a full time contract! For the past eight months, Mai-Wel participants Brad and Damien (pictured) have been gaining experience in the hospitality industry by participating in Step Up’s introductory work experience program, helping out in the canteen at St Joseph’s College at Lochinvar. In the past, the canteen has provided work experience to five other participants gain hospitality experience. Mai-Wel’s Step Up offers a variety of supports to aid the transition between school and work life. [...]
