Participants practice work skills in the pop up café as part of Cert II in Foundation Skills

MWLFS has once again joined with JobQuest to deliver a highly requested training program for job seekers which will enable them to earn their Certificate II in Foundation Skills. This certificate is equivalent to gaining a Year 10 Certificate, and aims to build skills for employment and education. In this instance, the certificate has been designed to focus on Community Service studies, aiming to increase confidence and prepare participants for the next step in their study or work journey.

Through a Training Needs Analysis that was conducted, it was identified that a number of participants were interested in completing their School Certificate equivalent. Together, JobQuest and MWLFS have identified an attractive subject matter and incorporated this into the foundation units and created learning and assessments to meet the requirements of the training bodies.

For 18 weeks participants will attend this program, delivered by JobQuest, on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

One of the first practical assessments for the Certificate II was the pop up café where participants like Lee and Mitch (pictured) prepared lunch in MWLFS Thrive Café training kitchen space. The menu included quiches, ham and cheese croissants, fresh juice and coffee.

The participants were assessed on their organisation and preparation of the day, including taking on feedback from a survey conducted on service, food quality and cleanliness.

The boys will be continuing on with their studies at MWLFS until completion on the 17 December 2020.
