Sarah’s achieving her employment and education goals with MWLFS

We last spoke to Sarah about how she had been discovering her passion for youth work and building her qualifications with help from MWLFS Disability Employment Services (DES).

Sarah has since been supported to enrol in further studies of choice and is currently completing her Diploma of Counselling.

She began her job search with DES and was supported to apply for suitable roles. When Sarah successfully gained an interview, her Case Worker helped her prepare and build some tools to help calm her nerves.

“I have learnt to just breathe,” Sarah says of her supports with DES, “not everything is as scary as you think and I’m more capable than I think!”

Through the Thrive Workwear initiative, Sarah was provided with some professional clothes, to help her dress to impress on the days of her interview.

Sarah was able to successfully gain employment at a local employer, where she is using the skills she gained through her recent studies of Essential Skills for Community Services, Certificate IV in Community Services, Certificate IV in Mental Health as well as still  learning about in her current studies for her Diploma of Counselling.

Overall, Sarah says Mai-Wel has helped her build confidence, and has made upskilling and gaining employment easy – which she didn’t think was possible!

“I’m proud to have completed my study and gained employment because it’s important to me to have independence and build towards my future,” says Sarah.

“Now, I’m going to continue to complete my Diploma in Counselling and continue working.”

Congratulations Sarah!
